The Native American Sweat Lodge: History and Legends
Published in Paperback by Crossing Press (October, 1993)
Average review score:

A Good MixIf you don't even know what a sweat-lodge is you might not get what you are looking for reading this book. However, for those who would like to learn more about Native American spiritual practices, it's a rich supply of knowledge. The book sets forth the history of the Sweat-lodge in many cultures, and also tells some great ancient tales of the lodge--great for telling in the lodge, or around the fire.

Natural Wonders of Kentucky: Exploring Wild and Scenic Places (Natural Wonders of)
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (December, 1998)

Each entry is a vivid word picture of your day's experienceWe bought a copy by reason of sheer vanity since you quoted a good part of our conversation verbatim. It's not vanity that keeps me coming back again and again to read a few more of your entries about various locations around the state. Each entry is a vivid word picture of the experience you had on the particular day you made your visit. That's a lot more than most travel guides offer and a whole lot more interesting.

New Orleans on the Half-Shell: A Native's Guide to the Crescent City
Published in Paperback by Pelican Pub Co (September, 1995)
Average review score:

Great Guide to a Great CityThis book is probably of most use to the seasoned New Orleans traveler, as it deals with the city from the perspective of a native telling you the best places to go. Think about it - would a New Yorker send you to Tavern on the Green or to their favorite local hangout? Would a San Franciscan send you to Ma Maison or to a hole-in-the-wall sandwiched between a Chinese grocery and a laundromat? Well, "New Orleans on the Half-Shell" is no different; local, unknown places take the front seat here, leaving the touristy places to the other guides.
This is not to say that there is no consideration for the casual tourist here. You'll get all the information you need from this slim volume, from shopping to dining, tours to bar-hopping. But I'd recommend that you use this particular guide in conjunction with another, more complete guide, specifically the terrific Insight guide that doubles as a history book and cultural primary.
On a personal note, I found my favorite restaurant in all the world in "New Orleans on the Half Shell", a place not mentioned in any other guidebook. I won't tell you where it is; you'll have to read it yourself to find it.

Notes from Blue Mountain (Hannah and the Angels , No 4)
Published in Paperback by Random House Childrens Pub (November, 1998)
Average review score:

Gotta love emAll the Hannah and the Angel books are great! I recommend this book for children of ages 9-12 because the story is based on a 6th grade girl. The book is written wonderfully and has little drawings on the sides of the page so you know what's going on. It also has history and geography in it because she travels all around the world! Happy reading!

Nursing Fathers
Published in Hardcover by Lexington Books (25 March, 1999)
Average review score:

A 1st-rate study on the impact of Whig thought in AmericaThe Glorious Revolution had major implications for the British subjects in America, and the resulting Whig constitution helped the American colonists to define their position with regard to the King. Price's book combines political theory with historical detail, showing how the colonists adopted Whig thought and adapted it to their purposes. Yet the notion of the King as representative of the people, protecting their basic rights and implementing their popular will, left no room in the colonies for the roles of appointed Governor or overseas Parliament. The resulting conflicts, according to Price, helped erode relations between England and America. This is a lovely book, that makes a real contribution to the historiography of the pre-revolutionary period.

Obituaries in American Culture
Published in Paperback by Univ Pr of Mississippi (July, 2000)
Average review score:

A look back, to look aheadThis book takes a look at obituaries over time in American culture. It's an interesting look at a piece of human life that often falls by the wayside. Over time our memories and conceptions concerning death, the way our lives have been led and those we have lost change. A great longitudinal study for those interested in public memory.

Oklahoma Sportfishing: A Complete Sportsman's Guide
Published in Paperback by Countryman Pr (June, 2002)
Average review score:

Oklahoma Sport Fishing by John Allen GiffordI'm very happy with my copy of Oklahoma Sport Fishing by John Gifford. I'm an avid bass angler and refer to Mr. Giffords book before each trip to the lake.
Mr. Gifford does a great job detailing how to fish for multiple species of fish throughout the seasons in Oklahoma lakes. Even though the book is written about Oklahoma lakes, the tactics could be helpful to anglers in other states with similar lakes and species.
Besides being very informative to fishermen, Mr. Gifford's story telling style is very entertaining! I read the book cover to cover and now use it time and again to prepare lake to lake, season to season. My fishing has improved noticeably since reading Oklahoma Sport Fishing!
